GoMa – The Dark Monarc

by François Zappa

Industrial act GoMa treats us with the release of The Dark Monarc, their new album. After an eponym first work published in 2018 and a single from 2019, the new album The Dark Monarc was published in March 2021 in digital format on Machineman Records.

The new work of GoMa offers the listener a nocturne and organique universe that mixes with talent alternative and electronic rock. With its tickling and percussive rhythms parts, its sharp guitars and its, sometimes crazy, electronic sounds, The Dark Monarc has all the elements to be enjoyed in a dark clubs.

An interesting universe thanks to the multiple and diverse sounds presented, but also because of the subject that unifies all the songs, the stories based on the relation of a couple. We have particularly liked “Unbreakable,” a song quite aggressive from the very first seconds thanks to the drums and the bass pattern that will stay anchored in your mind. “LoveBitch” has also caught our attention thanks to the is rock rhythm that gives the title a beautiful attraction force.

Despite the album undeniable quality, both in the mixing and in terms of musical ideas, The Dark Monarc is a bit repetitive as a whole and songs don’t change too much from one to another. Despite this flaw, that can be considered something subjective, we recommend that you pay attention to the universe of GoMa and its composer, Juan Madrigal.
