FESTIVAL – This is not a dark fest

by François Zappa

The new edition of the This is not a dark fest will take place this Saturday 14th May at the Belgian city of Lessines. The line-up includes legendary punk band Red Zebra, the coldwave of Ultimate Dreamers, the modern EBM of the 2021 revelation Ultra Sunn and the minimal wave of Partikul. After the concerts, the party will go on with the DJ sets of DJ Chacha and DJ Gore. Everything for just 15 euros at the presale and 2o at the door.

Red Zebra is one of the classic Belgian new wave/punk and they are still playing great shows. We interviewed Peter Slabbynck, singer of the band, a few years ago and we have also seen them live three times, and all of them were incredible concerts. If you are reading this and you are from Belgium, it’s impossible that you don’t know them. If you aren’t Belgian, we recommend you the compilation entitled Songs And Stripes, where you can find most of their hits.

We wrote a post about Ultimate Dreamers not long ago. They are a Belgian band who were in active during 1986 to 1990 that has reunited lately. Last year, a compilation entitled Live Happily While Waiting For Death, was released and it’s the perfect way of knowing a bit about this band that promised to record new material in this 2022.

We have written a lot about Ultra Sunn, as they were one of the revelations of the past 2021. We managed to see them live three times, first at the Liège New Wave Festival, later at the Ombra Festival and last but not least at part of the program of the Bizarro parties. The public loved each of their shows and we could notice how the duo was getting better day by day.

Regarding Partikul, they are a Belgian duo that started in 2019. Last year, they released their first album, Related Memories, that they are presenting now. This is not a dark fest will be a very good opportunity to discover their music.
