French musician Philippe Laurent has surprised us with two new improvised pieces. The first one, 39 minutes long has been recorded using a Harley Benton guitar and the following pedals (SE-50 Boss, A3 Korg, SX-700 Boss, G1 XFour Zoom, Element XP Digitech, DD 500 Boss x 2, Joyo JGE-01). The first 12 minutes, after a powerful start, are dreamy and of great beauty. The central part, instead has a western vibe, and the track continues evolving in an otherworldly and abstract final part.
The second track we would like to comment here, Improvisation 4 is shorter than the previous songs of the series, but being nine minutes long, I would not say that it’s short. For this track, Philippe Laurent has worked with an Hagstrom Ultra Swede guitar and all these effects: SE-50 Boss, A3 Korg, SX-700 Boss, G1 XFour Zoom, Element XP Digitech, DD 500 Boss x 2, Joyo JGE-01). The track starts with some Japanese sounds and manages to keep a mysterious vibe along the full 9 minutes.
We would like to remind you that Philippe Laurent published some classic cassettes of electro, minimal and synth pop back in the eighties and that some of these songs were reissued by Minimal Wave label in a compilation entitled Hot Bip (the alias used by Philippe in those days). Also, in the latest years he has released a split with Xeno And Oaklander, and two interesting 12″, Mithra and Phoenix. It sounds like it’s a good day for those who want to complete their discography.
