From Norway comes Painted Romans, Mats Davidsen’s post-punk project that has released a new single, entitled Formation. Mats started his musical career with Wallpaper Silhouettes, formed in 1993. Under the moniker of Painted Romans, he published a first album in 2008, Evil Wigs and Bedroom Moments and, so far, he has released a large number of singles and EPs that you can buy and listen to here. A good introduction to the band is the long-named compilation Dirt Wages/Slight Hipness. Wholesome Moments from Painted Romans and Beyond (1999-2017). In the Bandcamp of Painted Romans, it’s also possible to listen to the two albums published by Wallpaper Silhouettes, the first one in 2004.
“Formation” has everything we like in post-punk tune: a deep and pained voice singing over some guitars that take us to the eighties. The song is lifted off from the forthcoming mini album, HEART. It’s planned to be released as digital download/stream and limited CD edition in autumn. We will review it as soon as possible. When you start listening for the first time to a band like Painted Romans, you only lament that there are only 24 hours in a day.
