Les ambiances tr\u00e8s r\u00e9verb\u00e9r\u00e9es offrent une grande amplitude sonore aux onze titres de l\u2019album et plongent l\u2019auditeur dans un univers post-punk impr\u00e9gn\u00e9 de shoegaze et de coldwave (ou \u00ab\u2009post-punk-gaze\u2009\u00bb, selon les propres mots du quatuor). Les m\u00e9lodies sont simples, mais d\u2019une efficacit\u00e9 redoutable que d\u2019ondoyantes guitares nimbent de splendides arp\u00e8ges. Le chant est lointain, pur et vaporeux tandis que le sempiternel duo basse\/batterie forme les rouages d\u2019une m\u00e9canique rythmique imperturbable. Les effets de fuzz, de delay et une r\u00e9verb\u00e9ration monumentale sculptent l\u2019univers sonore d\u2019<em>Age of Resilience<\/em>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Si les trois premiers titres, \u00ab\u2009Nowhere Nagasaky\u2009\u00bb, \u00ab\u2009The Pyre\u2009\u00bb et \u00ab\u2009Cape of Good Hope\u2009\u00bb installent une ambiance tr\u00e8s lumineuse, la partie centrale de l\u2019album est quant \u00e0 elle plus sombre. \u00ab\u2009Tending A Dead Woman\u2019s Garden\u2009\u00bb, le quatri\u00e8me morceau nous entra\u00eene dans une rythmique plus nerveuse form\u00e9e de riffs rapides aux intervalles de notes r\u00e9duits. Sans que l\u2019on puisse s\u2019expliquer pourquoi, il existe certaines musiques capables de te plonger dans un \u00e9tat second. Naturellement, c\u2019est tr\u00e8s subjectif, mais \u00e0 mon sens, \u00ab\u2009Roman Empire\u2009\u00bb est de ceux-l\u00e0. Incontestablement mon morceau pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 d\u2019<em>Age of Resilience\u2009<\/em>!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Quelques changements heureux s\u2019op\u00e8rent d\u2019un point de vue sonore et rythmique du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la batterie. Dans \u00ab\u2009Siegfried\u00a01969\u2009\u00bb, elle conf\u00e8re un c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u00ab\u2009r\u00e9tro\u2009\u00bb au titre avec ses sons \u00e9lectroniques. Les patterns de batterie, jusque-l\u00e0 assez statiques et r\u00e9p\u00e9titifs, s\u2019offrent de nouveaux reliefs avec les accents de \u00ab\u2009Claming Race\u2009\u00bb. La rythmique de \u00ab\u2009Foghorn\u2019s Cry\u2009\u00bb, radicalement diff\u00e9rente de celles des dix autres pistes de l\u2019album. En tant que dernier morceau, le titre constitue une conclusion stratosph\u00e9rique \u00e0\u00a0<em>Age of Resilience<\/em>, l\u2019apog\u00e9e des ambiances qui caract\u00e9risent l\u2019esth\u00e9tique de ce LP.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">\u00c0 travers ses onze pistes,\u00a0<em>Age of Resilience<\/em>, le dernier album de\u00a0<strong>The City Gate\u00a0<\/strong>nous offre un petit voyage au c\u0153ur de la musique des ann\u00e9es\u00a080 et 90 avec un son d\u00e9licieusement moderne. Les fans de\u00a0<strong>The Chameleons, Slowdive, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Sisters of Mercy, Love and Rockets ou Soviet Soviet<\/strong>\u00a0\u00e9prouveront sans aucun doute beaucoup de plaisir \u00e0 \u00e9couter cet album.
