Franco-Spanish label Unknown Pleasures has become a specialist in making great tribute albums. After a first Honoris dedicated to Death In June<\/strong>, we have a new one focused on The Sisters of Mercy<\/strong> and The Sisterhood.<\/strong> In the past, the label also published a tribute to the music of Genesis P-Orridge, one dedicated to Daniel Darc<\/strong> and his band Taxi Girl<\/strong> and another to the incomparable Noir D\u00e9sir<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Among the artists who homage Andrew Eldrith\u2019s classic band, we can find some familiar names from the label such as Cold synth act Selfishadows,<\/strong> Goth rockers The Raudive,<\/strong> the post-punk from Versari<\/strong> or Chris Shape,<\/strong> composer of the magnific Shape to Deform<\/em>. Together with them, there is also this year the great collaboration between Kill Shelter<\/strong> and Antipole,<\/strong> Years of Denial,<\/strong> a band that we have repeatedly praised lately and Deathtrippers,<\/strong> a formation that we know thanks to the great Dead Wax compilation. The line-up of this compilation also includes S\u00e9bastien Faits Divers<\/strong>, who is collaborating again with the label boss HIV+<\/strong> as they already did in the Death in June<\/strong> tribute, where we could also find the Gothic Folk of Opium Dream Estate<\/strong>. There is also a series of acts that we were not so familiar with, like the darkwave of Swesor Bhrater<\/strong>, the post-punk\/shoegaze of Delphine Coma<\/strong>, the Goth rock of A Wedding Anniversary<\/strong> (formed in 1988) and Karloz M. with his projects Stranger Dreams<\/strong> and MNFCTR.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

After talking about the bands, let\u2019s say a few words about the covers Chris Shape<\/strong>, Swesor Bhrater<\/strong> and Years of Denial<\/strong> are the ones who take the material closer to their territories: the first one creates a breakneck synthwave track, the second one gives it some 80s vibes that remind me of Microdisney<\/strong> while the French\/Czech duo tries to join the Sisterhood<\/strong> but their admission is denied, so they keep their personal sound in part thanks to Barkosina Hanusova\u2019s characteristic voice.<\/span><\/p>

Talking about the rest, Kill Shelter<\/strong> and Antipole<\/strong> highlight magnificently the melancholic of \u201cNine While Nine.\u201d A Wedding Anniversary<\/strong> proves to be good alumni with their cover of The Sisterhood<\/strong>. Classic \u201cMarian\u201d sounds even more Goth thanks to Selfinshadows. Delphine Coma<\/strong> are quite respectful with \u201cAmphetamin Logic\u201d as well as Deathtrippers <\/strong>with their \u201cBurn.\u201d Versari presents an original take of \u201cHeartland.\u201d S\u00e9bastien Faits Divers<\/strong> together with HIV+ make the most of \u201cFlood II\u201d, one of the most apasionantes compositions of Sisters of Mercy<\/strong>, adding some electronic touches and using the freedom that the original gives them. At the end of the album, Opium Dream Estate<\/strong> makes \u201cSome Kind of Stranger\u201d a track even more disturbing and melancholic and The Raudite<\/strong> get along perfectly with the atmospheres of \u201cColours.\u201d As a bonus track, we have a quite original cover in French of \u201cFlood I\u201d by Maman K\u00fcsters.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

In summary: can the album be enjoyed by Sisters of Mercy<\/strong> fans? Yes, sure. Is it worth it to listen to these new covers? Undoubtedly. Is the CD interesting for those who want to find new bands? Absolutely, I have added to more bands to my \u201cTo follow\u201d list. Are we going to be better persons after listening to it? That\u2019s difficult as not even Eldritch\u2019s great band managed to achieve it.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
