Judith Juillerat<\/b> appeared in our lives after winning a contest to participate in a benefit album of covers and remixes of Bj\u00f6rk<\/b>\u2019s \u201cArmy of Me\u201d where she used the moniker of Liliom. <\/b>We are talking of a faraway 2005, when she was part of the band\u00a0Super 8<\/b> (she recorded Dramatic Airlines<\/i> with them) and during the same year, Judith<\/b> released a first album on her own, Soliloquy<\/i>. Later, she played with\u00a0Black Egg<\/b> (band that shared a cassette with Blind Delon<\/b> a couple of years ago), until 2013, just one year after releasing her second album Acting Out. <\/i>In 2016, she published two works: the album Nooks and Crannies <\/i>and the\u00a0Screen Door <\/i>EP. <\/i>To finish with her discography, let\u2019s remember\u00a0A Tribute To Genesis Breyer P-Orridge,\u00a0<\/i>album that we mentioned not long ago, where she covered Psychic TV\u2019<\/b>s \u201cBlack Moon\u201d, song that will help me to introduce my review of her new album.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span>On that occasion, the song played by Judith was named after the term used for the second new moon in a month. And in this Oneironautics<\/i> from last year, we meet again the Earth\u2019s satellite in \u201cHalf Moon\u201d, one of the reasons for buying this fourth album by Judith Juillerat<\/b>, published by Unknown Pleasures in a beautiful hexagonal edition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oneironautics <\/i>is a dream made true for every lover of analogue synths. The album starts with the instrumental \u201cI had a Dream\u201d (not related to the famous speech, it\u2019s all about the dreams and Oneiros, the Greek personifications of dreams that name the album) where you can get the impression of falling in a dream, while the surrounding sounds of synths soften your fall. In the second track \u201cBetween you, me and The Gatepost\u201d, we listen to Judith<\/b> singing\/narrating, in a style similar to Laurie Anderson<\/b>\u2019s, in a very dreamy song, seasoned with the sound of birds singing. But not all the dreams are pleasant, and soon we arrived at the disturbing \u201cPhantasos\u201d, with some robotic voices and a vibe that manages to be cold and warm at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some backwards voices keep floating in \u201cPara\/doxa\u201d, the shortest song of the album and at the same time one of the most abstract ones, where only a keyboard melody seems to be the lighthouse that can guide us.\u00a0 The soothing voice comes back in \u201cHalf Moon\u201d, as the reality around us is getting weirder. Instead, \u201cSwift Tuttle\u201d is minimalist, ghostly and disturbing: it\u2019s one of the best tracks of the album. \u201cSin\u201d with its \u201cmotorik\u201d rhythm works perfectly as an intro for the version of our beloved Amon D\u00fc\u00fcl II\u2019<\/b>s \u201cRiding on a Cloud\u201d (we saw them live in September 2018, a memory that now, sadly, seems too far away) which Judith<\/b> manages to make her own. With \u201cIn-Flight\u201d, we seem to be flying thanks to a repeated sound that looks like the beating of some wings, over clouds made of lines of synths. The album finishes with \u201cNavigability,\u201d another warm track that seems to want us to remain in this dream and never wake up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oneironautics\u00a0<\/i>works as a unified album with details and sonorities that repeat themselves in several songs. If you like electronic music, you will love this album.<\/span><\/p>\n
