Darkwave band The Sea at Midnight delivers another new single focused on climate change, entitled Our Brilliant Destruction which will be part of their upcoming EP, Burning, to be released on April 22nd, just in time for Earth Day. This single continues the subject of their previous songs, “Chopping Them Down”, “Wait for Rain”, “Midnight Sun” and “Burning” which along with a couple of other compositions will form the aforementioned EP. The Sea at Midnight is Vince Grant’s band, with two albums and several EPs and singles released. From El Garaje, we have been closely following the band’s career, although lately due to being busier than usual, we have not been able to write about their latest releases. Lately, the poetic metaphors of the sea have been replaced by concerns about climate change, and the issues addressed in their songs are more current and relevant than ever, as demonstrated by the fires that ravaged Los Angeles in January. All proceeds from the single will go to the victims of those fires.
“Our Brilliant Destruction”, from the name, puts the finger on the sore spot: we are guilty of what is happening, it is our own destruction. Vince Grant continues to sing with his characteristic passion, and this time, the song touches him closely and his throat shows the pain he is suffering. In this new single, the music of The Sea At Midnight sounds a little more rock, with some synthesizer adding some color and melancholy. As always, Vince knows how to create a good chorus, emotional and epic in equal parts thanks in part to his singing and the use of some synthesizers that burst in at just the right moment. The track ends with the unexpected entrance of a distorted guitar that seems to cry for the events. The Sea At Midnight proves to be able to not stagnate and continue to evolve, bringing new nuances to their songs. For his part, Chris King does not fail and again manages to deliver another brilliant production.
