I always find it interesting when two ‘theoretically’ different worlds collide, as in the track we want to talk about today: the remix that Dave Clarke, known as the baron of techno, has done of one of Antipole‘s latest singles. We know Antipole, the coldwave moniker of Norwegian guitar player Karl Morten Dahl, well, we have listened to and reviewed his albums with Paris Alexander (and Eirene) and also the A Haunted Place he composed with Kill Shelter. We are also familiar with the remixer, as we have seen Dave Clarke djing on several occasions and have been surprised by his intensity and rawness. Although, we’ve barely had the chance to get into his wide and influential career, but we’ll definitely get there. Getting back to the track, Sad Lover, Desolated was the single Antipole & Paris Alexander released earlier this year.
Dave Clarke had already remixed artists from outside the techno universe such as Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and New Order. Here he doesn’t stray too far from the spirit of the original, although he gives it a slightly less melancholic touch, making it more upbeat and danceable. The famous DJ and producer gives more prominence and speed to the percussion, while keeping Antipole‘s guitar and Paris Alexander‘s seductive voice. Perhaps this remix will serve to bring these two worlds a little closer together.
